Once upon a time, in a little town in Texas…

there was a sketchy abandoned washateria…

and I made my first born get out of the car for a photo...and she did it with a smile…

we’re back…

Elizabeth and I flew home late last night from 6 great days in Texas.  We had so much fun together…shopping, eating, laughing, and pulling over to the side of the road every time I saw a cute cow or horse or fencepost with flowers growing on it!  This was the entrance to one of a hundred ranches we passed, and I stopped on the side of the road and asked her to walk down the driveway a bit.  We were both nervous to be trespassing, so we made it quick…

and as soon as I snapped this picture a HUGE Texas sized jackrabbit jumped out from the fence and scared us to death!  We ran to the car and drove away…our hearts were pounding and we were screaming/laughing/crying all at the same time.  A little adventure is good for the soul!  More adventures to come…

In two weeks I am flying to Texas to attend the Fall Antique Market and my daughter Elizabeth is going along with me…a week of mother-daughter junkin’…Texas style!  Warrenton, Round Top, Marburger, Zapp Hall, Junk Gypsies…here we come!   Here are a few of my favorite photos from my last visit…

strangest carry on…

The strangest thing I ever carried onto a plane was this typewriter…

that I bought at a garage sale in Kansas last month for $8.00…

and it was WAY too heavy for my luggage.  So I carried it in a bag, through security, and onto the plane.  After carrying it home, through the entire Atlanta airport, it felt like 100 pounds!  But it was only $8.00.  You would have done the same thing, right?

Carol's...

I can’t imagine a more perfect afternoon, than the one I spent at Carol's.  Carol and her husband have just finished restoring an 1865 farmhouse and are just moving in, yet she still found time to host a luncheon for us!  My pictures don’t really do justice to her GORGEOUS home, you should go to her BLOG for that, but let me tell you…it’s perfect!!!  Carol is an amazing photographer and stylist, and she has a fabulous sense of style, so when you put it all together it’s like walking into the page of a magazine.

I was such fun to tour her farmhouse, but honestly, it is Carol that made the day perfect.  She is the SWEETEST person, so gracious and kind, and somehow when we are together it always ends up like this:

Creative Cottage weekend…

Let me start by saying this: after seeing Karla's studio, I have studio envy.  First of all, it is HUGE.  It is a separate house…a cottage…FILLED with vintage goodness.  EVERY nook and cranny is brimming with beautiful things, all beautifully displayed. I have buttons in jelly jars-she has buttons in gorgeous apothecary jars, embellished with ribbons and millinery. GASP. SIGH. DROOL. You would have loved it!  There was inspiration everywhere you turned.

What fun it was to talk and create art in such a relaxed setting, then have dinner and wine in the garden(Karla is an awesome cook), and come back to sit and craft and chat some more.  And laugh…lots of laughing!    I was like a kid in a candy store with all that vintage fabulousness to work with.  Overwhelmed and wide-eyed, and a bit in awe :)  We all made several projects, but here is one project we all made…a little birdhouse…

I spent 3 days in Kansas, but it wasn’t all crafting and eating, there was shopping! From garage sales (I bought a vintage Underwood typewriter for $8.00 and had to carry it on the plane-SO heavy!), a church sale, an antique mall, Angies great shop, and Deb’s store : Curious Sofa. It was a great girl’s weekend, with friends old and new.  And then there were the puppies.  Good grief, please help me…but nothing is cuter than those puppies…

Karla had 6 tiny delicious 6 week old Yorkie puppies that were the cutest things on earth.  I got to hold them and play with them, and let them nibble my toes…I wanted to bring one home so badly!  Karla is trying to decide which one to keep and can’t decide between this little boy…

As you can see, we already had a dress up session with the girl, and she was SO adorable, that I think she might be staying…

She was wearing a tiny doll bride dress!  How sweet!!  Teresa McFayden came to visit on Sunday and picked out a little girl puppy she named Lilly. I can’t wait to see which one Karla keeps (keep both!), and to find out what she decides for a name.  Thanks Karla for inviting me to your cottage…it was a perfect weekend!

I’m not in Kansas anymore…

I just had the best weekend in Kansas City, spending time with Karla Nathan, Carol Spinski, Deb Dusenberry, Beth Leintz, Angie Conrad (needs a blog!), and a special visit from Teresa McFayden. I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow, but for now my parents are here and need some love!  Oh, and I will show how to make the fabric bracelets on Wed! xo

miss lauri…

 

My sweet friend, Lauri Evans, can also be found at Lakewood every month, and twice a year she packs her bags and heads to Texas where she sets up her fabulous style at Marburger. Do I even have to tell you how much I wanted that pink doll carriage?  I am always inspired by Lauri’s booth and displays, and I love her neutral color palette.  She’s also one of the nicest gals in town…

My friend Nancy has a great blog and business called Sassytrash. You can find her on the 3rd weekend of every month at the Lakewood Antique Market.  Elizabeth and I stopped by to see her yesterday and I bought this adorable “junk garden” from her. 

She used a vintage enamel tin for the container and added lots of vintage elements to the garden….bits of china,

a spoon and another china lid…

a rusted metal piece…

some old fencing with vintage photos wired on…I just LOVE it!!

She had 2 others…this one with the oval platter and silver creamer…and notice the vintage tart tin and the lamp harp…genius!!

and this one…more china, and succulents and architectural fragments…she has such talent :)

She also made these amazing flowers out of all sorts of jello molds and tins…I couldn’t decide, so I bought all 4 of these!

Nashville Flea Market…

My daughter and I were only at the flea market for a few hours, but managed to find some great deals.  She really has an eye for what we collect and the two of us can power shop!  Along with the shopping we managed to meet up with a few friends including Kana Conger who was there with Jenni Bowlin.

We found a stack of vintage hymnals ($1.00 each), lace hankies and jewels…

a huge bag of lace ($10.00), and linens (50 cents each)…

pale pink saucers and berry bowls…

a few hats and a hat box…

a vintage peach corset and satin hanger ($1.00 each)…

barkcloth and a few tins…

more assorted finds…

 

 

and don’t forget the fresh turkey eggs, complete with feathers!
