instagram weekend: Nashville...

I spent the weekend in one of my favorite cities...Nashville, and used Instagram to record the memories.  We did a little honky tonkin in the clubs on Broadway...every nightspot had free admission and a live band (some places had 2 bands), and they were all just amazing!  Even if you don't like country music, you can enjoy the energy and the atmosphere and the nicest people around.  Southern hospitality is alive and well in Nashville!

We did some shopping, including a stop at Hatch Show Print, a company that has been making letterpress posters since 1879.  The work and history at Hatch is amazing, and I bought a bunch of letterpress posters for $3.00 each, that I can cut up and use to make a really cool journal!

I also bought a new pair of boots..it seemed like the right thing to do, and these were too cute to pass up :)

I fell in love with Nashville 7 years ago, when my daughter moved there to attend college at Vanderbilt University.  For 4 years I would visit her, and as I drove through town I was reminded of so many good times spent with her there.  Now I have one more great weekend to add to those memories...and ps...Happy Birthday Daddy!

figs and flowers...

On Monday I ate my very first fig. Picked straight from the tree.  delightful. delicious.  Now I want a fig tree.

Tuesday I surprised my daughter with flowers at work.  I left them secretly on the windshield of her car.  She knew it was me.  She was having one of those days and I wanted to cheer her up.  It worked :)

 

On Wednesday I decided to do a little watercolor every morning while having my coffee.  Practice makes perfect.  I need practice!

 

Thursday I practiced again.

A few weeks ago, my (favorite) Aunt invited me to join her quilting group at their monthly sewing day.  Now these gals aren't just quilters, they are fabric artists, and they exhibit their work and attend shows, etc.  I REALLY did not feel qualified to be sewing in the same room with these women, but I love my Aunt and wanted to spend a day with her.  She said a few of the women were going to be making purses that day, instead of quilting, so I grabbed my bag of scraps and off I went.  The women there were doing crazy things like using patterns and MEASUREING,  lining up seams, clipping threads and even (gasp) IRONING!  The quilt projects were amazing, and the purses were perfection.  At one point that afternoon, someone asked ever-so-sweetly "Now what are you doing?", to which I replied "I have no idea!" No pattern, no clue, here's my finished project...

I used lots of floral barkcloth scraps...

and assorted scraps of lace, ribbon, rick rack and pom-poms...

 

I had SO much fun, and I love my new bag...

They have invited me back for their August sewing day, and some of us will be making fabric flowers...I can't wait!

details: all doorknobs and drawer knobs: Anthropologie...

brushed nickel fixtures and quartz countertops...

i used 3 different knobs for an eclectic look (one style for top drawers, one for middle, one for bottom-doors are the same as the top knob)...

I had the standard window ledge behind the tub replaced with a 5" custom shelf...deep enough to hold candles and flowers and a glass of wine...

a custom niche with shelf in the shower holds a silver bud vase for fresh flowers :)...

a sheepskin rug from Overland Outfitters feels luxurious...

 

and it wouldn't be complete without a picture of my loves...

I {love} my new bathroom, and I don't even mind cleaning it!

girly details...

My master bathroom remodel was finished MONTHS ago, and I have never shared the "after" photos.  Here are a few details in my new bathroom that make me crazy happy...little girly touches that make me smile! A chippy metal hook on the back of a door that holds my favorite vintage satin padded hanger (with pink roses of course!) holding two vintage sequin and beaded tops from the 50's and 60's. 

Favorite items on my bathroom bookcase...my seating tag from my daughters wedding, with her handwriting...
