Pink Roses

On this first day of Spring, I had the loveliest surprise...my first pink Camellia ever!  I planted this bush almost a decade ago, and never had a bloom.

I will consider this a sign of good things to come...:)

Today is my sons birthday...22 years old!  Not much can be said that I haven't said before.  Raising him has been an adventure and a privilege, and being his mom is my badge of honor.  He stole my heart 22 years ago, and I never want it back.  I am going to see him tomorrow, and I can hardly wait.  Happy Birthday baby! xo mom

It's week 4 of my Master bathroom renovation, and there has been some progress.  So many decisions in one room, I seriously have no idea how people build an ENTIRE house! The floors are installed...they are a 16" square Italian marble with a hand chiseled edge, to give them a rustic-old world feel.  The cabinets and bookcase are installed, and we are waiting on the countertops. The shower is almost done, I am using the same marble, but in a 8" x 16" size and it is being installed in a brick-stack pattern. Here it is in progress...

I made over a wrought iron and crystal chandelier I have had in the garage for years...it will go over the bathtub.

 

I still have to pick out faucets, hardware, lighting and fixtures and more... but that's my progress report for now!

"our" color palette...

Now that my daughter is married, I absolutely cherish the rare time I get to spend with her.  I don't feel like I am raising her anymore.  She is simply my very best friend.  Yesterday she had the day off, and she came over to my house.  We took a long walk and talked about everything, then we went to lunch (and cupcakes) and then did a little antique shopping.  When we came home we went through cookbooks and did some meal planning.  It was a very perfect mother-daughter day.  At the antique mall she found this vintage velvet flower covered hat in one booth, and I found this English tin in another.  The woman working at the check out commented that these items looked lovely together.  My daughter innocently replied " they're in our color palette".  OUR color palette!  Who knew?  Another reason to love being her mom...

DIY Friday: doily table runner...

I finally made something that I have had pinned to my Pinterest "DIY" board for almost 9 months...this table runner made from doilies!  I saw the original here:

and thought I would make it for my kitchen table.  Well even though I have quite a few doilies, it wasn't enough, so I scaled it down and made a smaller runner for my coffee table in the living room.  I just arranged (and re-arranged) the doilies until they were in a pleasing pattern, and then pinned and hand stitched them together where they overlapped.  Some day I could always add to it and make it larger for my kitchen table.  I also did a "makeover" on this cute Easter bunny I found at TJMaxx this week...

He started out with a blue crepe paper ruffle around his neck, and I just changed it to a silk ribbon and added a soft pink flower from an old hat.  Now maybe HE is a SHE!  Either way, the bunny is now more my style!
