cat voice...

 

do you have a pet?

do you talk to your pet in a special voice?

we do. the cat voice.

this is our cat. the queen. the princess. the baby. the angel. her name is angel.  but we call her lots of other things.  she will COMPLETLEY ignore us if we talk to her in a normal voice, but will WAKE UP if she hears the cat voice.  she knows we are talking to her... (we've had her 10 years)

Last weekend we watched some old baby videos of the kids, and my kids said, "hey mom, you are talking to us in the cat voice". I said, well we didn't have the cat then, and that was my "baby voice" for you two.  "you invented that voice for us?"  yep.  And now we all use it on the cat. I think everybody has a special way of talking to the ones they love, don't you?

Dilemma...

It might be time to buy a Tivo.  I hardly ever watch TV, but tonight 3 shows are premiering at the same time, and I want to watch them all...

Grey's Anatomy on ABC...I don't know if I'm a McDreamy or McSteamy fan, but this is a guilty pleasure...

O.K., maybe McDreamy...

CSI on CBS. I was always a Nancy Drew fan-had all the books-loved solving mysteries.  This show appeals to my inner detective. Grisom kind of has that McSteamy thing going on here...

Anyway....it all happens at 9:00 Eastern time...I have 12 hours to figure it out.  Let me know what you're watching tonight....

the button chair...

13 years ago my kids and I stayed in our pajamas all weekend and made art.  They were 4 and 7. Specifically, we made this...

the button chair.  My husband was away for the weekend doing his Navy reserve stuff, and I thought-if he gets to have fun, so should we!  I somehow had the idea to use my huge stash of buttons (that I bought in college when a fabric store was going out of business for 5 cents a card) and put them on an old childrens school chair.  We painted the chair, and used bathtub caulk to adhere the buttons.  When you press the button into the caulk it squishes out of the holes of the button-and the children would scream with delight! You can still see it on the 2 toned blue button...

We then took a teensy tiny wooden BBQ skewer and used the flat end to make polka dots...we had to dip the end in paint before each dot...lots of dots...

 In between the painting we watched Mary Poppins, and 101 Dalmations, listened to disco music and danced in the kitchen.  We even left home in our PJ's twice-once to the Dairy Queen drive-thru at 4:00 in the afternoon for Blizzards.  I did put a sweater over my nightgown (the kids again were screaming) and I must admit I was nervous about running out of gas, or getting a flat tire...none of which happened.  The next time I did an art show, I took the chair with me as part of a display (I would never sell it), and my daughter made this tag for it...

A few months later we made another chair, this one with rhinestones ...

and polka dots and chandelier crystals..

 

 I just found the tag my daughter made when I was cleaning a closet and have been thinking about that weekend 13 years ago ...thanks for taking a trip down memory lane with me!

my life in books...

I went to Goodwill today and bought a few books.  It's funny how they sort of sum up my life right now...I didn't plan it that way. 

 

A prayer for my son...my son is the only child home right now, and while I pray for my daughter at college, I don't know every detail of her daily life.  I know when my son is tired, and stressed, when he is out driving, or taking a test.  I know the temptations and peer pressures he is facing at age 17.  And I pray for him.  A lot.

Living a Beautiful Life...I try to keep a pleasant home where friends and family are always welcomed and loved.  Some days you just get bogged down with to-do lists-bills, laundry etc.  With the holiday season coming up, it is always fun to decorate, and the house seems more festive.  I need to kick it up a notch.  I did buy Halloween M&M's and candy corn at the grocery store yesterday-does that count?

This is my best...hmmm...I'm not sure I've achieved my best at anything yet! I must admit, that I do try to give my best when others are involved-but sometimes slack on me.  I need to work on that.  Take more walks, get more sleep, eat healthy.  Stay away from the Halloween candy. 

I did buy one other book, it doesn't go with the "theme", but it was old and kinda cool..

 

On second thought-maybe this is part of my theme...old and kinda cool! So here I go, to follow my books advice... Doing my best to live a beautiful life.  And praying that someday I'll be old and cool!

My painter friend Tom was finishing my basement yesterday, and I was in my studio, organizing.  He walked in and said..

Tom: can I just ask, what do you do with all this junk stuff?

me: I make things

Tom: what kind of things?

me: art

Tom: like what?

me: (I show him my portfolio)

Tom: oooohhhhh. girl art.  Well...if it makes you happy....

...it does Tom, it does!

This arrived the other day...

 and you know it's going to be cute before you even open it...the name, the logo, the black & white zebra paper, pink and orange organza ribbon, the cutest ever damask packing tape...talk about presentation!  Who else but the adorable Kimberly Kwan and her brand new Etsy shop called lulubellas!  I purchase a "snack pack" of vintage and vintage inspired fabric trims...

 and it arrived all wrapped up with this darling flower pin!  I am new to Etsy shopping (I've shopped Ebay for years), and I am loving all the handcrafted items.  So many Bella girls have stores there-I can't wait to check them all out!  www.etsy.com
